Wiring terminal industry terms
1. Male and female terminals
Some users are used to the common name of plug and socket. The plug is prominent and becomes the male head, and the socket will be called the female head.
2. Contacts
Also known as contact, its function is to form an electrically conductive connection. Of course, the contact is often the place that leads to poor connection! This is because the contact may become dirty or oxidized, or the elasticity of the metal shrapnel becomes smaller with time, which will lead to loose contact or unreliable connection.
3. Spacing
The distance between terminals is the distance from the center of one contact to the center of the next contact, such as 3.50mm, 3.81mm, 5.08mm, etc. because many terminals look very similar to the contact, but the distance may be different, so the terminals of a model series are often different only because of this parameter. Therefore, it is easy to purchase terminals that cannot be paired without knowing this parameter.
4. Plugging times
At present, the service life of the terminal is limited, and each time the terminal is connected and disconnected, it will cause partial wear. The service life is indicated by the plugging times, and the plugging times of terminals with different technologies vary greatly.
5. Installation method
At present, the "installation" of the terminal refers to the following situations: how to install the terminal in use (installed on the panel, freely suspended, and installed on the circuit board); The angle of the terminal relative to its accessories (right angle or right angle); How to mechanically connect the terminal blocks (solder patch welding, surface patch welding, through-hole welding).
6. Bending extension (for strain relief)
When the connector is installed on the circuit board or cable, the connection at the wire bend is often a little fragile. Some type of bending extension is usually provided to mitigate the strain in order to transfer any strain acting on the connector to more reasonable structures.
